Had my bike for sale here and on craigslist. A person from craigslist called and agreed to buy my bike. When i went to his house to sell the bike i was robbed. The house he had me meet him at was a vacant house in a normal neighborhood, i didnt know it was vacant at the time. When he asked if he could start the bike i said sure thinking where is he gonna go cause were at his home. Started the bike and took off like a bat out of underworld. Partially my fault for even letting him get on the bike. They have it set up so good it seems legit. They use vacant home and prepaid cell phones to lure you in. I will learn from my mistakes and hope others do too. The area its happening in is the Fairburn area. I didnt know much about the area before hand but i know i will not go back now. I lost a 2003 cr250

That stinks. Something similar happened a while back to a GOR member. Think he went to buy a bike and was robbed at gunpoint at a vacant house.
It seems Fairburn is a hotbed for this type of activity and hope you filed a police report. Not that you will get your bike back, but to create a public record of the theft. Sooner or later the police are going to need to become more pro-active on these CL ripe offs.

Yeah i got a police report but like you said i will never see the bike again. The first thing the cop said to me was "dont you know better then to sell stuff on craigslist?". They told me its been going on all summer and fall. Just makes me sick people do this kind of piddley-poo

Big of you to share the experience here though. Might help somebody avoid a similar situation someday. Most would want to keep it on the low, fearing some unwarranted embarrassment. WTG!

Yeah it's embarrassing talking about it cause I should of known better. Maybe it will keep it from happening to others though. I learned the hard way. So much for being a trusting person, never again

Nothing to be ashamed of man! Its happened to alot of people around the country. You are a straight shooter trying to make a deal.....and got taken by a scumbag ::mad::
Its a crying shame that we have to resort to taking a gun...a friend..or both with us when we try to sell a dirt bike!! ::screwy:: Some people are just plain out sorry. I have been lucky........so far. I will be on the look-out down here in my neck of the woods. If I see your bike.....you will get it back!! ::up::

I would imagine the graphics will get torn off. That's an aftermarket tank, right? And the holes in grips make your bike unique looking.

Pretty good looking for an '03.

I can't move this so I started a thread in 'Stolen'
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=55316
Please start posting there.

Throw up a VIN in case somebody finds your bike. Not likely but you never know.

Sorry for your loss.

Best,
- c bob

For future reference always meet on neutral ground, in a very public place. Never go to buyers home. I have had them come to me, but I would never go to them, you never know what you are walking into. If you reported it you might get it back, I know people that have, but not in the same shape. Ill keep a lookout up my way for it.

Most of my craigslist deals have been trades....no cash involved :D
Maybe that why I've been ok. ::up::

I can't believe it but they found my bike and the guy that stole it. He wasn't even smart enough to take the name plates off. They found him riding it 1 street down from where he stole it from me at. Only bad part is I have to pay the impound fee to get the bike.

That's good to hear. Have you ID'ed the guy? It could be the someone else taking acride on the bike. If convicted the judge can make him pay restitution for the impound fee and any damage. I'm sure you will need new tires. Once you get the bike back you may want to drain the gas as it's most likely got straight gas in it. Hopefully it wasn't run too long without pre-mix or they were still using the original gas that was in the tank.

Dude, that sucks. Hope you get it back and the guy rots in underworld. I've bought and sold so many things on CL and never had a problem. Maybe its the 45 on my hip and the AR in the wife's lap ? Guns save lives.
