Pre 87 no title needed.

Rule is 20+ years old requires no title. Here's your chance to ride that old YZ/Rm 465 or CR480 or IT490 or YZ490- on the street, assuming you can wire up lighting. :D

If you need a VIN # checked without bike present , it can be done...

No title is needed for 1985 and below! 86 and 87 most definatly need one.

There is NOT a 20 year old rule in Georgia. Every vehicle in GA was issued a title starting 1986 and for older vehicles it's 20 buck to get a titled issued but not needed! You will not get a title for a bike based on age just year of production.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! You mean someone in state government misinformed me!!!!!!!!! I just can't believe that! A travesty!!! Unbelieveable!! Unconsionable!! Unpardonable!!!!!

Looks like 85 is the year to have then, eh? :)

Well Joe if it was last year, 2005 technically they weren't misinforming you!! Since it just so happened to be that 1985 and 2005 was 20 years!!!

Also a Bonded title can be obtained by getting a notarized bill of sale for the LAST regestered owner then getting a title bond from a bond company. Then take both to the DMV in Hapeville. Don't do this if there is any loan or lean because if the bonding company has to pay anything you will be heald liable and sued.

. It seems Ive heard of getting "junk" or "salvage " titles but not sure on who you need to know or what hoops you have to jump through to get that done.

100 bucks and a four month waiting period.

For the streetbike. If there is a lien on the bike she will not have the title until the lien is paid. The lienholder has the title. If the lien is paid in full then the lienholder sends the title to the owner with a lien release.

I sold my truck and to get the title I had to pay off the loan.

Now I bought an 89 KLR that I paid next to nothing for hoping that I will be able to get a title for it. I will be going through the process of checking the VIN and filling out the forms. I will will report back if I get a tag. That is if the bike is worth fixing.

I would never buy a used bike without the title, all of my bikes I bought came with the title. Also, try to get a bill of sale, just a piece of paper that you both sign. Good hunting!

Not all dirtbike thefts are reported but you can at least do a quick NICB check yourself here before trying the police route.
