Since I am almost done with my Frankenstien 1976 YZ 125 Motored, 1974 MX 175 Cylinered, 1980 YZ 100 Framed project, I am going to be picking up a new project this Sunday.

I am picking up a 1983 YZ 490 Roller. Also 1982 YZ 490 Frame, Shock, Swing Arm, Triple Clamps and Forks. 1982 YZ 490 Bottom End and a 1983 YZ 490 Top End.

So what should I create? Should I rebuild this into a 1982 Yamaha YZ 490 or should I build it into a 1983 Yamaha YZ 490 Broc Glover Replica?

Parts for the 1983 YZ 490's are very easy to come by online.

If anyone has photos of Broc Glovers 1983 YZ 490 to post up in this thread or email to me that would be great. I can't find any. I can't believe how few pics there are of Broc Glover when compared to other Motocross star of that era. He is a 6 Time National Champion yet the number of pics of him during his 500cc Nation Championship runs are minimal.

There is the Stock photo of the 1985 Yamaha YZ 490 that Yamaha presented to him all over the net, but that bike is bone stock.

Broc's bike was a full factory bike in '83, cant really build a replica of that. The bike you could build an almost exact replica of is his '85 500 Championship bike which was a production based YZ490 similar to the '83, but white and red. The '85 is a bit different, the biggest thing is the pipe runs up the right side where on your '83 its on the left.

Just build the '83 and tell everyone its a replica of Broc's '82 bike, I will be the only one who will know any difference. LOL :D

I am sure a few old guys will know the difference. These old projects are fun. Very expensive, but fun.

1983 Yamaha YZ490 Cylinder has JD Ent stamped into the side of the intake. And the Cylinder looks very heavily ported. I mean heavily ported.

I also got the 1980 Yamaha YZ465 that I had no plans of keeping. I was just going to part it out, but while taking it apart I started thinking about Rebuilding and Restoring it. But I should really part it out.

1983 Yamaha YZ490 Cylinder has JD TFD Ent stamped into the side of the intake will be sold and I will be looking for a Stock 1983 Yamaha YZ490 Barrel for $50 or Less.

1983 JD TFD Ent is so heavily Modified that I don't know what Reed Valve Assembly bolts up to it. As the Manifold is heavily Modified. I was told that the Bike was used for Hill Climbing and the bike does have an Extended Swing Arm.

Anyone with interest in the Cylinder can e-mail me at: athomerecords25@hotmail.com

You could try to contact Mossbarger for the reed cage. They did a lot of custom work.

So the guy I bought the 1983 Yamaha YZ490 dropped it on the Shift Lever side and it does not catch gears anymore. STOPPER LEVER ASSEMBLY is 100% intact and when I hit the shifter it moves up and the gears make a clicking sound like they are engaging, but when you spin the shaft, everything just spins like it is in Neutral.

Any Ideas?

Hmm, maybe a badly bent shift fork?

Mark is right, as usual, the prime suspect would be a bent shift fork.
