I rode 2 years ago and it was a fun time. Good turn out and nice combination of twisty paved back roads, dirt roads, and a few stream crossings as well

I think I'll make it. I've been off the bike for most of the summer and need to get out.

How long(timewise) does something like this typically last? What gear and tools do people typically bring along for these types rides? I dont think I will make it to this ride, but new to the dual sporting scene and would love to do a ride like this.

last time it took me 6 plus hours to do the ride, when you ride with a group. the 1st guy waits at the intersection till every one shows up, then you head off again. at least that's the way we did it, plus stopping for pictures, and gas and some food take time, and gives you a chance to rest.

I did the one in the spring probably about 120+miles about 6-7 hours with lunch. I was the slow guy in my group (new KLX250 (75-80mpg) and I am more used to trail riding a dirt bike)and they did not seem to mind waiting some. I think it was about 15 riders in three groups only one bike ran out of gas (gas on route closed right before the ride so the station was about 3 miles further and one ran out, no other problems with any bikes) it is a very good way to see what dual sport group rides are like. We were in the Piedmont wildlife preserve for part of the ride.
I hope to make this ride but work gets in the way a lot anymore.

I plan on going up the night before and depending on the night time temps getting a room or camping out at the tiger drive in. Getting up at 5 AM to leave at 6 AM to be there by 8 AM doesn't hold much attraction for me. Any one else given any thought to going up the day before?

Sure seems like it is going to be a great weekend for this ride. I am planning on being there.

What a good ride! The weather couldn't have been any better. Rain held off with a little sprinkling on the way home. Great to catch up with friends that I hadn't seen in awhile. The scenery with leaves changing and sun going in and out of clouds was awesome. The turnout was more than I had expected, with no problems all day long. The forest roads had good variety of terrain with a rocky uphill section and numerous water crossings. I am hoping there will be some pictures on the GARTRA facebook page. If you missed it, maybe plan on getting to the next one. It is worth it! Thank you to GARTRA and everyone involved with making this event happen.
