Yo its a complete turd down low and in the middle. If you want to go fast, OPEN the throttle and wait 10 seconds. Then it gets a little of that hyper 2 stroke thing goin on ya know. Fo da woodz tho it aint bad. Think xr200 or somethin. Utility.

Power
Good Low end pull due to the Y.E.I.S.Yamaha Energy Induction System. Mid was mild stock. Top was, well... not there at all in stock condition as well.
Suspension
The Front Suspension was way too soft (even for my 145 pound frame at the time).
The rear Suspension offered fairly good action with a little of the famous "Yama-hop" under braking conditions.
Brakes
Front drum worked great new, even after a bath in the local streams. It didn't last long though. EBC Brake Pads helped a lot. Stock front brake cable streached a lot as well.
Rear Brake, was prone to lock up every time you lightly tapped it. I never found a fix for the rear brake except to rely on good throttle and compression control. Yes! Even though this bike was a little two stroke, it had great trail-usable compression braking.
Comments
The 83 IT175 was a confidence inspiring play bike, that with a few little modifications, such as an Krause Pipe, EBC brake pads, Stiffer fork springs, and the addition of an O-ring chain could be turned from a tame wanna-be woods racer, into a deceptive woods weapon. It is very easy to maintain, offers a lower seat height as compared to today’s Motorcross Skyscrapers. And due to the absence of liquid cooling, is relatively crash proof!
