Power
My review will be based on the performance of the bike when new (1980). The 1980 YZ80 was designated the "G" model. I raced the '78 "E", '79 "F", '80 "G", '81 "H" and spent a considerable amount of time on the'82 "J" model (there never was an "I" model). The 1980 YZ80 had a decent mid range to an excellent almost electric top end. The '78 and '79 were all top end power. The '78, '79 and '80 models had many interchangeable parts. Although the demensions of these parts varied, they would interchange.
Ergonomics
This bike is taller than the '79 YZ80 and has a very nice layout for 1980 standards. It was the first year the little YZ had a plastic tank and FIM regulation side number plates. It also sported a wider front fender.
Suspension, Front
Very good for the time period.
Suspension, Rear
the Monoshock had much improved travel over the '79 "F" model.
Brakes
good
Comments
This was the best 80cc bike in 1980. But, couldn't win a race against bikes even a few years later, let alone a modern bike.

Power
at the mo mine wont go into power bands properly, needs new rings i think but when its working properly this bike really flies, it scares me and i own a 91 CR125!
Suspension
fine
Brakes
it takes me from slamming on the front and back completely, about 80 feet to stop, with both feet on the ground it stops a bit faster. almost like having no brakes, but it is 23 years old i suppose
Comments
really fast bike for its size. fun for fun use. i only paid 60 ( $80) for it.

Power
Absoulutely Hoon's, I have beaten a KDX 175 over a straight 1Km road. Straight of the block to power hits you then the power band kicks in and your looking to see if your still alive, it's that fast for a YZ80
Suspension
Front suspension gets top marks
while the rear needs to be way stiffer
Brakes
Front are excellent while the rear tend to need a few extra meters to slow down
Comments
it takes the cake when it comes to YZ80's below 1991

Power
This bike has the most power i have ever seen in a 80cc mono-x. The bike has a rather soft low-end but then you get your pants ripped off when it surges into the mid to upper power band. Then it is unbelievable.Add 3 teeth to the rear sprocket and drop one up front for more power in the trails. It still goes 55+ mph.
Suspension
Front is rather soft for me i weigh about 160. The rear is great(stiff) there is not enough space in between the frame and tire for soft suspension.
Brakes
Great front. Rear locks up way too easy and needs a bit of adjustment here and there.
Comments
Last year of air cooled engine, mod # is 3r1 for both frame and engine. I am in the process of restoring it now new cylinder, piston, paint, plastic, and bars etc.
