Power
the 1988 model yz 250 in my experiance has alot of power in the low and mid range. towards the top end the accelerating does not decrease in any way. for out and out power the 1988 yz 250 is one of the best bikes iv ever had or rode.
Suspension
i personaly belive that the suspension on my yz 250 is on of the best iv seen. there is alot you can do with the 1988 yz 250s suspension with out spending a lot of your hard erned cash. once you have set the suspension up to suit you the ride will be amazing.
Brakes
i find the braking on the 1988 yz 250 to exelent considering its an old bike and i have put better disks and pads on to help the braking performance.
Comments
the 1988 yz 250 it a well made bike and it is worth its money up to 1,200 easily. i have had lots of fun on my yz and if you can find on at a reasonable price at good condition BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Power
Pulls strong from idle up through the mid range. I bought mine used and put an '89 stock pipe and a DG silncer on it. It really brought the motor to life. Excellent power for woods/trail riding.
Suspension
Front is average. Decent reaction and absorbtion of small to medium bumps. Kinda harsh on the big stuff though.
Rear is decent over smaller bumps bu very harsh over bigger stuff (possibly due to the way mine is set-up. I'm still feeling my way around on the bike).
Brakes
Front - very grabby.
Rear - you really have to clamp the binders down to get it to lock-up.
Comments
I bought mine for $300 (a steal!). I've put an additional $200-$300 into it. The condition it's in right now, I'd have no problems paying $900-$1,000 for it. A real BLAST to ride. If you can find one that hasn't been abused, grab it!

Power
In 1988 racing was based on one thing - Power-! it's low to mid is very responsive on my 1988 I currenlty have fmf fatty pipe power core silencer FmF ram valve wiesco .50 piston . very quick bike I usaully find my self short shifting the bike..
Suspension
stock very very very squishy. finsup suspension in lompoc california did my rear shock which is a white power shock that came stock on the 88's . The front i just tighned up the adjuster all 18 clicks tight 20w fork oil... now the suspensionis beautifull
Brakes
might as well have none... cant seem to get the front and back matched... no good(.)
Comments
i've now had mine for a year and it get's the work done . Very dependable fast and for those who are not so mechanical dont worry this thing is easy and fun to work on.. i love the bike to pieces i race it at the local track the picture above gives the bike no justice as far as looks go. i have 96 plastics on mine which confuses people when they see the conventional forks... i laugh.. and when i beet the new bikes, i keeps my laughing..
