Very little down low for a 250. Extremely pipey with a massive hit mid-range and it will rev-out hard. It's hard bike to ride unless you are going all-out.
Not bad for its age. The monoshock was better than the twin-shocks of that era. The forks are nice units with air caps so you have a good bit of adjustability.
Front is strong and rear has a nice feel.
Bob Hannah made the 1978 YZ famous. A recent magazine article said it was an influential bike in motocross history. I sold mine to a friend who is racing it in the 250 D class. Surprisingly, he's finishing in the top five as rider effort and skill plays a big factor in D racing. This bike has been ported with an aftermarket pipe and aftermarket monoshock. It's amazing to see it out there passing CRF 450s and modern 250 two strokes.
