Power
Good mellow useable power, Climbs hills with enthusiasm. A good run around town bike also. Not the right kind of power to race with stock but their are a few tricks you can do to make them fast. Good smooth power delevery. Revy readilly and makes a good enduro. Will blow the doors off and XR 250 of the same erra. For those of us who want the worlds fastest DT 250 ever wrap ur mind around this. The 1977 YZ400D motor will bolt directly into this frame. I did this just jor fun and had the coolest sleeper 250 you could think of.
Ergonomics
Feels like a good ol yamaha trail bike. Controls feel good. The bike is a generally good trail bike.
Suspension, Front
It works. Kinda, it does its job and thats about it. What more can i say. For its time it was revoultionary, i rather enjoyed his machine until i blew the motor up for the third time. After that i put a YZ400 motor in the frame. If you have the means do it. You will have the most vicious vintage flat track racer you had ever ridden. In the stock trim the bike handled well overall, on or off road. I think the bike would have been better suited as a flat track racer, as it always seemed to go where ya put it when ya got her goin sideways. It did that well too. Giving it a horsepower boost made it a lot more fun. This bike felt planted the whole time. Suspention was a bit on the stiff side all things considering.
Suspension, Rear
Stiff. What little of it is seems to work well for a bike of its erra. I noticed mine liked to hop around when i locked up the brakes, or when i pushed it over rough ground, i recharged the shock and never had a problem after that. Always seemed a bit on the stiff side, but always did its job very well.
Brakes
They do their job, what more could ya ask for.
Comments
Good trail bike and general run around bike. I spent a few summers on the back of this bad boy and rather enjoyed the bike. this is a good trail bike for just playin around with. Ive owned a bunch of differend DT250,s and in generall this is a good bike, Even my 1969 DT250 is a good bike, In generall a bike that would bring smiles to anyone who rode one.
